Anderson Jones' Movie Scoop 2 September 28, 2001 Busy Brittany Murphy stars in this week's Don't Say a Word with Michael Douglas, and you'll also see her in Riding in Cars with Boys and Sidewalks of New York later this fall. Brittany tells me she can't really explain how she "found" her mentally troubled character in this "psychological thriller with heart." "It's my job," she says. "Logistically speaking, I went to Bellevue and visited with some of the patients. I just sort of immersed myself in it. It comes from more of an instinctual, visceral place." A New Jersey native with several family members in the marines, she says she will not be checking out box-office tallies or reviews this week. "Those things have never really played a big role in my life anyway. At this juncture, I feel so blessed to be alive and safe," says Murphy. "I'm so happy--and happy isn't even the word. I just feel honored and blessed to live in a country where I can do what I want for a living with no questions asked."
